Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about golf in County Antrim

Tee times at Royal Portrush Dunluce Links are in very high demand, particularly since The Open Championship in 2019. Visitors should book well in advance — ideally several months ahead for the Dunluce course, especially in summer. Bookings can be made directly through the Royal Portrush website or via GolfNow. A valid handicap certificate is required for the Dunluce Links. The Valley Links is more accessible and available on shorter notice.
For serious golfers, Royal Portrush Dunluce Links is widely regarded as one of the top five courses in the world and is absolutely worth the premium green fee of £350–£420. The course offers an extraordinary golfing experience — dramatic clifftop holes, sweeping views of the North Antrim coast and the Giant's Causeway, and immaculate playing conditions. If budget is a concern, the Valley Links at £150–£200 offers a world-class links experience on the same estate at a more accessible price point.
Within 20 minutes of Royal Portrush you will find Portstewart Strand Course (a championship links and Irish Open host), Bushfoot Golf Club in Portballintrae (a charming links beside the River Bush), and Ballycastle Golf Club (a unique course combining links and parkland with stunning views to Rathlin Island). Together, these courses make up one of the finest links golf destinations in the world, rivalling any coastal golf region in Britain or Ireland.
Royal Portrush hosted The Open Championship in 2019 — the first time The Open had been held in Ireland since 1951. The event was a landmark occasion for Irish golf, with 237,000 spectators attending over the week. Shane Lowry won the Claret Jug with a brilliant final round 63 on his home soil, in front of one of the most memorable and partisan galleries in Open history. The Open returns to Royal Portrush in 2025 for the second time in six years.
Royal Portrush is approximately 100 miles from Dublin city centre, taking around 2 hours by car via the M1 and A26. Belfast International Airport is the closest airport, located just over an hour from Portrush. Belfast City Airport (George Best) is also convenient. From Belfast, Royal Portrush is approximately 65 miles (around 70 minutes). There are regular bus and train connections from Belfast to Portrush, with Northern Ireland Railways running services to Portrush station, which is within walking distance of the golf club.
