Royal Portrush Golf Club – Valley Links

Royal Portrush Golf Club's Valley Links occupies a remarkable stretch of linksland on the North Antrim coast, sharing the same facilities, views and club prestige as the Dunluce but offering a very different golfing experience. The Valley plays to a par of 70 over 6,304 yards, winding through sheltered dunes and undulating fairways that test course management as much as ball-striking. Without the same volume of visitors as the Dunluce, the Valley offers a more relaxed round with equally dramatic scenery.

The Valley Links was redesigned alongside the Dunluce restoration in preparation for The Open Championship 2019 and now serves as both a qualifying course and a genuine destination. It attracts visitors who want the Royal Portrush experience at a green fee less than half that of the Dunluce. Advance booking is required but considerably easier to secure. A must-play for any Causeway Coast golf itinerary.

Everything you need to know before you play

The Dunluce is the championship course — ranked in the world top five and host of The Open Championship. It is longer, more demanding, more expensive (£350–£420 vs £150–£200), and requires a handicap certificate. The Valley is a superb links in its own right, easier to book, and ideal for golfers who want the Royal Portrush experience at a more accessible price.
The Valley Links does not require a formal handicap certificate in the same strict way as the Dunluce. Advance booking is required and visitors should be competent golfers. Check directly with Royal Portrush Golf Club for the current visitor policy.
It is possible to book both courses on the same day, though this makes for a long 36-hole day of golf. Many visitors choose to play the Valley on one day and the Dunluce on another. Royal Portrush Golf Club can advise on combined booking options.
The Valley Links is considerably easier to book than the Dunluce but remains popular in summer. Booking 4–8 weeks ahead is recommended for July and August. Spring and autumn dates are generally available with shorter notice.
Within 20 minutes you will find Portstewart Strand Course (7 miles west), Bushfoot Golf Club in Portballintrae (5 miles east), and Ballycastle Golf Club (15 miles east). These form one of the world's finest links golf destinations.
